In homes with usually only one room, the box-bed allowed some privacy and helped keep people warm during winter. It was the main furniture of rural houses in Brittany until the century. i think holland slept in similar 'bunk' box beds?

In 1913 it was legal to mail children to see let's say grandma for 53 cents. They traveled with stamps on them with the mail carrier to their destination. It didn't last long. A few it illegal to mail children.
