HM Queen Marie of Romania. Died: July 18, 1938, aged 62. Marie died in Peleş Castle and was buried next to her husband in the Monastery of Curtea de Argeş. In accordance with her will, her heart was kept in a cloister at the Balchik Palace which she had built. In 1940, when Balchik and the rest of Southern Dobrudja were returned to Bulgaria in accordance with the Treaty of Craiova, Queen Marie's heart was transferred to Bran Castle in Romania.
Prince Carol of Romania and his wife Zizi Lambrino, also known as Princess Ioana. Zizi was a commoner and the young couple's marriage horrified King Ferdinand of Romania. The king succeeded in annulling the marriage and separating his weak willed son from his wife.
