King Michael with his mother, Princess Helen, in 1940. After his parents' divorce Michael's father, King Carol II, banished Helen from Romania and allowed Michael to visit her infrequently. Upon regaining the throne in 1940 one of the first things Michael did was to bring his mother home from exile.
Princess Marie of Romania, aka “Mignon”, a daughter of Queen Marie of Roumania nee Princess of Edinburgh and Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, in the 1910s. She went on to marry the King of Yugoslavia and became Queen, then Queen Mother. Her son was King Peter II, the last King of Yugoslavia.
