A Chinese Neolithic pottery jar, the body with bulbous form, gradually narrowing to a flat circular base, painted in black and maroon with crisscrossing lines and vertical strips, with a short neck supporting two simple loop handles, 14.5cm diameter, Majiayao culture (4th-3rd millennium BC).

China, Neolithic Period, Longshan Culture, ca. 3000 - 2000 BCE.. A large terracotta vessel with small loop handles on either side below the shoulder. Original red and black pigment is present around top shoulder of vessel, with red background and black geometric designs. Circular mark in black paint on lower part of vessel. Approximately 12"H.
