Ancient beauties -An elegant Greek sculpture (500 BC) 古典美女
Three Graces were minor goddesses and nymphs according to Greek Mythology the daughters of Zeus, the king of the gods and the Oceanid called Eurynome a nymph of the water-ways and clouds, who was represented by a statue of what we would call a mermaid.
This beautiful sculpture, dating back to the 1st century BC, is known as Venus Callipyge. What does this translate to, you ask? Literally, “Venus of the beautiful buttocks.“ Believed to be a Roman copy of an ancient Greek statue. The subject matter is (if you haven’t noticed by the name of the piece) that of Venus (the Roman equivalent of Aphrodite). The original Greek piece is forever lost and, unfortunately, the creator of this Roman one is unknown.
