In Call of Duty: Black Ops III, it is revealed that Eddie is actually another version of the young Edward Richtofen in an alternate dimension. The Richtofen from Origins seeks to protect this timeline and the children by killing other versions of himself including going back to Der Riese and killing his Original self, erasing all events in the Original Timeline.
