Thurgood Marshall was an Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court from 1967 until 1991. He was the Court's 96th justice and its 1st African-American justice. Before becoming a judge, Marshall was a lawyer who was best known for his high success rate in arguing before the Supreme Court & for the victory in Brown v. Board of Education. He argued more cases before the United States Supreme Court than anyone else in history. Pres. Johnson nominated him to the Supreme Court in 1967.

Thurgood Marshall born in Baltimore, became the first African-American Justice of the United States Supreme Court. In 1965 President Lyndon Johnson appointed him United States Solicitor General. Two years later he was appointed to the Supreme Court.
