Something I discovered living in San Antonio was Santa Muerte, Holy Death. This started in Mexico and has spread north. It's a female personification of death, probably based on an Aztec goddess. This is a beautiful Santa Muerte rosary.

This is Santa Muerte. Literally translated as Saint Death. Far from being a negative image, Santa Muerte in her various aspects is said to grant favors from husbands to healing, and is the special protectoress of those who work at night and may be exposed to its dangers. Her skeletal face reminds us of the opposites of life and death, dark and light. She can remind you to find balance between extremes. Her nicho is 6 inches wide, by 6 tall, by 1 inch deep, and hangs on the wall.

Día de los Muertos/Day of the dead~ Santa Muerte nicho, alter, folk art, Mexican, Day of the Dead.
