Peleș Castle in the Carpathian Mountains near Sinaia, Romania. Located on the existing medieval route linking Translyvania and Wallachia. Built by King Carol I of Romania from 1873-1914 at a cost of $120 million (today). From 1975-1990 Nicolae Ceausescu closed the entire estate. By 2006 the Romanian government announced restitution of the castle to former monarch Michael I of Romania.
