Ottoman/Afghanistani "Sher Bacha" fortress wall gun. The barrel is Turkish from about 1690. The percussion lock is of European quality from about 1850. The stock is Afghani from about 1850. This is the only one of these we have seen in 35 years of handling countless Middle East guns. Enormous rear sight with peep holes for various distantces. Chisled barrel engraved lock. Approx 80 caliber.

Ottoman rifle, miquelet-type lock with gilt maker's mark, octagonal Turkish-twist damascus barrel with prominent rear sight, scrolled borders and pierced for seven trajectories, with raised, chiseled panels at the breach and muzzle, and struck with a maker's mark, two engraved silver barrel bands, horn-tipped ramrod. The barrel signed WORK OF MEHMET SAMAN, an appliqué on the top flat of the butt struck, WORK OF NUSHAR HATAN. Mid 17th century, length 115.4 cm, barrel 81.7 cm.
