This is maybe one of the most powerful pictures I have ever seen. The numbers on the arms are from prisoners of Nazi concentration camps. The numbers replaced their names while at the camps and they were tattooed on so that they could be easily tracked by the Germans. This is why we study history. So this never happens again.

As the country ramped up for war, every German worker was required to put money aside every week for a Volkswagen or "People's Car", designed by Hitler with the help of Ferdinand Porsche. Millions of marks were collected by the Reich in this way, though not a single VW was ever delivered to a contributor. Hitler did present one to Eva Braun as a birthday present, though it's not certain that she ever learned to drive.
