These different types of lighting create different gradients and colours of light giving an image more meaning and depth. The way the light is enables the image to be more interesting and direct to what you want for your shoot.
Light setup for this is 2 gelled lights behind model pointed directly towards camera. Main light is a monolight on a gridded softbox and feathered, camera right 90 deg from camera axis to create a dramatic split light look with deep shadows.
Great idea for yearbook teacher pages - CMYK layering - I think this looks so captivating to the eye, it is probably fairly easy to do, just taking all the other color values out of the photo but I like the layered effect.
