An example of when this could be useful is in cavemen at times when a dangerous animal was approaching. Our old brain would be triggered and we would act on this in the fight or flight capacity (hopefully getting away as fast as possible!)  

However, this response is not helpful when we are in a busy shop and feeling overwhelmed by the sensory overload. Our old brain could be triggered into thinking there are threats around and we would act on this in a similar fight of flight capacity.
