Christine Brown on Romanian Textiles: kilim. The weaving is slit tapestry, but the curves in the designs in its field are accomplished with “eccentric wefts.”  In her discussion of eccentric wefts, Marla Mallett, in her book, Woven Structures, indicates that their use suggests “an extremely stable warp, held under excellent tension.”  Marla also notes that “shallow, curved shapes are easily created,” when a weavers is employing slit tapestry.
