DIY Tip of the Day: Make a hammer holder. Whether you’re hanging pictures or tacking down shingles, a hammer holder is a must-have accessory. To make one, cut an 11-in. length of wire from a clothes hanger—old, heavy-gauge wire hangers work best—and bend it with a vise or pliers. These measurements will work for most hammers: 1-1/2 in. high for the belt clip-on tabs; 1-1/4 in. out from the belt; and 2-1/4 in. wide.
