NM Climate Justice on Instagram: "OXY USA - is one of New Mexico’s top 5 spillers of toxic oil and gas waste called “produced water” which contains radioactive material and chemicals that companies can keep secret. This isn’t all OXY is known for - they’re responsible for the world’s most deadly offshore oil disaster - the 1988 Piper Alpha disaster in Scotland’s North Sea that killed 167 people. Here in New Mexico, in the first 10 months of 2024, OXY spilled just under 11,000 barrels of toxic produced water and over 6,000 barrels were “lost” in the environment. Most recently, OXY spilled 40 barrels of oil on federal public land in Eddy County, the epicenter of the world’s highest producing oilfield - the Permian Basin.
