Transylvanian SunkenChurch, Bezidul Nou, Romania In the autumn of 1989, this village was the first one of more than 8,000 villages that Nicolae Ceausescu was going to destroy as part of his industrialization program to force people into the cities and their factories. He was overthrown and executed shortly after this village was destroyed and, fortunately before any of the others were destroyed.
