Starbucks strikes somewhat of a Snow White-theme over in Japan where they're offering two new Frappuccinos: the Halloween Witch and Halloween Princess. The Halloween Witch Frappuccino features a red-colored apple compote layered with a caramel-flavored cookie, a dark chocolate apple slush, and dark chocolate syrup. The Halloween Princess Frappuccino features a sweet milk and apple flavor combined with white chocolate-flavored sauce.
The Pineapple Passionfruit combines – you guessed it – pineapple and passionfruit flavors plus dried pineapples on top for a sunny yellow drink. Let’s start with the Pineapple Passionfruit. This one was rather underwhelming. It was not as sweet as I expected it to be, and the aftertaste was very tart. It left me even more thirsty! But, the flavor combination itself was very nice. the new Chocolate Cream Cold Brew that launched this week is everything we crave for summer. This iced cold brew coffee is topped with a light and frothy chocolate cream cold foam, which is sweetened with vanilla syrup. While it’s being launched for summer 2022, it’s actually being added to the permanent menu, meaning the sweet and chocolatey cold brew is going to be available to us whenever the mood strikes.
Last year, the Chickpea Bites & Avocado Protein Box joined Starbucks’ permanent vegetarian menu. In the box, you’ll find snap peas, mini carrots, a savory avocado spread, and a trail mix of sorts that includes dried cranberries, almonds, pepitas, and sunflower seeds. The star of the show here are the chickpea bites, which the brand calls “falafel-inspired.” (????) Confusing chickpea nomenclature aside, the chickpea bites are surprisingly filling.
All Starbucks in Japan offer Sakura drinks like Sakura Strawberry Pink Mochi Frappuccino, Sakura Strawberry Pink Milk Latte, and Sakura Strawberry Pink Tea, all of which obviously taste extra sweet thanks to the Sakura, or cherry blossom, sauce. But these drinks are only available around spring.
Another dairy-free, caffeine-packing drink has hit the Starbucks menu. The new Iced Toasted Vanilla Oatmilk Shaken Espresso (try saying that one five times fast!) combines espresso shots with toasted vanilla syrup and oatmilk.
