The first daytime raid on London occurred on September 7, 1940. About 350 German bombers, who were escorted by over 600 fighters, dropped explosives on London causing about 450 deaths and 1300 injuries. For the next two months, night-time raids followed. From September to November, about 30,000 bombs were dropped on London and in the first month, almost 6,000 people were killed with twice as many being badly injured.
