Syllable division is important for decoding. Teach students to divide words into syllables and how to decode each of the syllable types.

Good spellers count syllables!  Syllabication activities and center ideas.  The image shows a list of words included in the syllable game, "Oh My Stars!"  Students withdraw word cards and collect stars.  If the word has 3 syllables, they take 3 stars.  If the word has 2 syllable, they take 2 stars.  Winner is the first one to cover their game board with stars.
