Spectacular when in full bloom, Purple Loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria) is a vigorous, upright perennial enjoying an extremely long bloom season from late spring to late summer. It features pink, purple, or magenta flowers in dense spikes, up to 18 in. long (45 cm) held atop lance-shaped leaves.

Purple loosestrife is a wetland perennial native to Europe and Asia that is an invasive problem in North American aquatic habitats. This plant was primarily spread across the continent as an ornamental. Today it can be found across the entire northern half of the United States.
