The highlight of the late spring bog garden, Primula x bulleesiana is a hybrid cross between Primula bulleyana and Primula beesiana. This hybrid perennial thrives in damp, shady environments where it brings in late spring or early summer, brightly colored, tiered whorls of flowers (3 to 6 per stem) spaced at intervals on leafless stems that rise atop basal rosettes of ovate to lanceolate, medium green leaves. This section has just two species, Primula capitata and P. glomerata, which have quite tight tufts of leaves, grey-green with their covering of farina. The deep purple heads of flowers form spheres or partial spheres at the tops of the slender stems, contrasting with the dense white farina that covers all other parts of the inflorescence.Primula capitata subsp. mooreana has particularly deep purple flowers, contrasting well with the pale, farina-covered leaves.
