OBJECTIVES Students learn to: • Understand how the Earth blocks the sun, creating a certain amount of shadow on the moon • Understand that the shadow amount is measured in moon phases, which have been identified and named • Recognize the moon phases

Earth science project. Lunar phases. This was my son's 6th grade project (before labeling). We used a black foam board, he painted the various size styrofoam balls (purchased from Walmart). Paint used was spray paint and acrylic paints. The sun's light was a flashlight inserted from the back (we hallowed out the center just big enough to push the flashlight in and almost to the front, but about an inch short and it illuminated the sun ball. Sun, Earth, and moons are attached with hot glue.
