What is Long Island Iced Tea? Invented on Long Island in 1972, Long Island Iced Tea is a strong cocktail consisting of vodka, gin, tequila, light rum, triple sec, a shot of sour mix, and cola. The cocktail is named after its place of origin and its color, which is reminiscent of iced tea - an effect that is achieved by adding a splash of cola to the cocktail, giving it an amber tone in the process
