With a long maritime history, shipwreck tales are inevitable. But, this one that happened off the coast of Cape Elizabeth was especially awful.

The fantastic and frightening minots Ledge Lighthouse off Cohasset, Massachusetts. The first lighthouse on this spot, a mile at sea on a rock ledge, collapsed in a storm much like the 2012 Hurricane Sandy. The lighthouse was rebuilt in 1870, so its now almost 150 years old. It deserves its own book. (I should write one just in its honor!)
