Presented with a unique triangular site, we designed this house to utilise the site's geometry. Located in a suburban area with high walls for privacy, the house is positioned on the northern boundary, maximising outdoor space without impacting neighbours. Solar modelling informed the arrangement of internal spaces to optimise daylight. The pitched roofs match neighbouring scales, and the main internal spaces are opened to the full height of the pitch. Landslide prevention is a must for any house positioned on or near a slope. The last thing a new home owner wants is to build their dream home only to watch it slide away down a muddy ramp. While retaining walls are tried and true methods to protecting your assets, they can be expensive, especially if you’re dealing with a large chunk of land. But don’t you worry. There are cheaper, more natural ways to keep the mud from stealing your home. Maybe you just purchased some land or you are looking to purchase some property and you’re probably asking yourself, how big of a parcel do I need? Is 1 acre of land enough? Maybe I need 10 or even 20 acres of land. It can be hard to grasp the size of 1 acre of land. I am going to try to help you visualize just how large 1 acre of land is. 1 square acre measures roughly 208 feet X 208 feet.
