Dark ages

“How it started. How it's going”

Many history enthusiasts probably know that the Middle ages that were sometimes referred to as 'Dark ages' were not so dark. In fact, these were the times when people started building castles - majestic and complex buildings, intended to be a safe retreat in the case of attack. Normans were the leading castle-builders of the period, having started building their constructions on the forts left by the Romans.

Most of these guys have been around for centuries, and it's time we stopped paying attention to them.

Gustave Dore (1832-1883) created the most popular illustrations and engravings in history. He reminds me of the top character actors of all time—you know their work, but you don't know their names. Gustave Dore was the most famous living artist in the world during his lifetime.

I've put together 10 paintings from the medieval times that I feel are weird, funny and just plain creepy! How these were the subjects is beyond me.
