French postcard by GMR-B, Depot serie 4048. Miss Ivy Lilian Close. English actress Ivy Close (1890 - 1968) was chosen as 'The Most Beautiful Woman in the World' in 1908. She then became one of the first stars of the British cinema and started a dynasty of British filmmakers. Ivy Close acted in 44 British, American, French and German films between 1912 and 1929. Most notable is Abel Gance's La roue/The wheel (1923).

Minnie Ashley (1883-1946) actress, sculptor and philanthropist was born as Beatrice Minerva Ashley in Charlottesville, Virginia. She married William Astor Chanler (1867-1934) in 1903. Their two sons were William Astor Chanler Jr (1904-2002) and Sidney Ashley Chanler (1907-1994). She died aboard a train enroute from New York to Portland, Maine aged 62. Born in New York to immigrant parents, Frank Eugene (1865 – 1936) was one of many young German-Americans to travel to Munich to study at the Royal Bavarian Academy of Arts.
