In the Art Room: Time to Make the Donuts

So if you've recently smelled the delish scent of donuts (or heard the crazed chatter of sugar'ed up chil-rens), then there's a good chance you've been hangin' out in my neck o' the "with sprinkles, please" woods. This week, my fourth grade artists were introduced to Wayne Thiebald, Peter Anton and Lucy Sparrow (all artists with work that is sweet-tooth provoking) via this wee prezi I created. Feel free to use and edit (you just might wanna remove that pic of me in my donut hat!). My kids…

Wild and Wacky Weaving!

So many "W" words! We Weave our Warp with a Weft or a Woof! Weaving is Wonderful! Second graders folded paper in half, and used rulers to mark off 5 or 6 lines to cut. Then they "decorated" the warp with a pattern, gluing on colorful or patterned paper strips between the cuts in the paper. When the glue was dry, they chose ANOTHER pattern to weave with. Some kids repeated the same pattern, others chose something totally different. When weaving was complete, ends were glued down, and the…

Winter Birds

I saw this beautiful project on Deep Sparkle Space at: http://www.deepspacesparkle.com/2012/02/29/winter-bird-art-lesson/winter-bird-art-lesson/ and decided to try it with the kindergarteners and first graders. I adapted the project to our time limits and made posters to show the steps, to help the children keep track. I love the colorful bird above, and its untroubled expression as it flies in the snowy forest. It was snowing hard the day we did this project, making it all even more…

Patterns for What If You Had Animal Teeth

Wow! I got such a great response from my activity! Click here if you missed it. Thanks so much for all of your wonderful comments! I’ve assembled the patterns…now I didn’t make teeth for all the animals…just the ones I thought my students would like and the ones I could successfully make with my shape tools in Power Point . I am not an artist. If anyone makes the other patterns, please share. Click the picture to grab your copy! I hope your students have fun with this activity!

Spring time roll a flower first grade

First graders are practicing floral landscapes and even using a little bit of chance! We roll the dice to figure out which flower parts to draw. We made sure to use lines, patterns, and creativity! These "Roll-A" sheets can be found at this web site: http://expressivemonkey.com/collections/flowers/products/drawing-flowers

Henri Rousseau Art

This is my sample: We used scratch foam to create Henri Rousseau inspired jungle prints. We used the same print four times. We drew a tiger in three parts and added it to the print background with clay so that it became 3D. I had the students draw their tiger but here is a pattern: Tiger Template Jungle Interactive Art This is my coworkers beautiful art: This is a video we made about rainforest facts:
