Socotra, an island 380 kilometres south of Yemen, is considered the jewel of biodiversity in the Arabian Sea. One of the most isolated landforms on Earth, the island is home to the endemic Dragon Blood Tree - which is found no where else in the world.
The island Socotra lies in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Africa, belongs to Yemen, and could be one of the strangest places on the planet. Isolated from the main continent for over 7 million years, its plants and animals have deviated on their own evolutionary path and have become unique unto themselves to the point that some describe it as an alien planet here on Earth
