Daphne: or "Laurel" in Greek, was a famous high priestess of Gaia. She was almost a victim of Apollo's lust. But Daphne appealed to Gaia, who turned her into a laurel tree just in the nick of time. The laurel tree has mind altering properties, and the leaves were chewed by priestesses at Delphi to induce a ecstatic trance.
