Mocanita is the forest narrow gauge train pulled by a steam locomotive, used in Romania since the era of Austro-Hungarian Empire. Today the use of Mocanita trains is limited to some mountainous areas of Romania like Maramures, Transilvania and Bukovina and mainly to touristic purposes. Mocanita is actually a word of endearment and refers to the fact that the train is running very slow. Also, the terms comes from the Romanian word mocan which means one who lives in mountains.
