This is the Carina Nebula, an interstellar cloud of dust, hydrogen, helium and other ionized gases. It lies within our own Milky Way galaxy, about 6,500-10,000 light-years from Earth. Like many nebulae, it is a star-forming region, and contains two of the most massive and luminous stars in our galaxy, along with multiple O-type stars. Our galaxy itself is estimated to contain 200-400 billion stars, and roughly ten times as many planets.

The Rosette Nebula Inside the nebula lies an open cluster of bright young stars designated NGC 2244. These stars formed about four million years ago from the nebular material and their stellar winds are clearing a hole in the nebula's center, insulated by a layer of dust and hot gas. U V light from the hot cluster stars causes the surrounding nebula to glow. The Rosette Nebula spans about 100 light-years across, lies about 5,000 light-years away.

Carina Nebula “The Cosmos is all that is or was or ever will be. Our feeblest contemplations of the Cosmos stir us ~ there is a tingling in the spine, a catch in the voice, a faint sensation, as if a distant memory, of falling from a height. We know we are approaching the greatest of mysteries.” ~ Carl Sagan

The Sombrero Galaxy in Infrared One of the largest galaxies in the nearby Virgo Cluster of Galaxies. The dark band of dust that obscures the mid-section of the Sombrero Galaxy in optical light actually glows brightly in infrared light. The above image, digitally sharpened, shows the infrared glow, recently recorded by the orbiting Spitzer Space Telescope
Keyhole Nebula
The Keyhole Nebula (which is also known as the Carina Nebula or NGC 3372) is a glowing cloud of gas, dust, and stars some 8000 light years distant toward the constellation Carina. The Keyhole Nebula contains both bright regions that glow by means of fluorescence emission from ionized gas, and dark regions that obscure background light by means of dense molecular gas and dust.

Emission Nebula NGC 6188: NGC 6188 is an emission nebula located about 4,000 light years away in the constellation Ara. The bright open cluster NGC 6193, visible to the naked eye, is responsible for a region of reflection nebulosity (clouds of interstellar dust which reflect the light of a nearby star or stars) within NGC 6188. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NGC_6188

A rainbow of the Universe. If I could do anything, I would study astronomy. The sky has always intrigued me and I would love to learn all I can about it. I would love to be as close as possible to this science. It is a beautiful party of God's creation.
