We call these "blow-overs" where I live. It's a shallow rooted tree that the wind "blew over" leaving the roots intact. This one has had the trunk cut, turned upside down, buried into the ground and the "root part" left face-up and then planted beautifully! Some people just tip the tree on its side, with the bottom of the roots exposed, and leave them as gorgeous "yard art" - Either way, they are a wonderful gift from nature!
I made this out of an old tree stem I found in my parents garden. The plants were also in the garden =) sometimes it's like a little fleemarket. I've put moss in the "open parts" of the tree stem and then just put the little cut succulents in it. Hope you like it - if anybody is interested I posted some pictures of the process on my tumblr. #succulent #diy
