Africa | Western Azande Shield.  The Azande (plural of "Zande" in the Zande language) are an ethnic group of north Central Africa.  They live primarily in the northeastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in South Sudan, and in southeastern Central African Republic.

Africa | Shield from the Ganda people of Uganda | Wood frame with animal skin rim, woven cane | Such shields were carried by the Ganda north of Lake Victoria and the Soga in the district of Busoga to the northeast of the Lake. On account of the high artistic quality of their workmanship and their elegant wickerwork ornamentation, many of these shields had already come into the possession of European museums before the turn of the 19th century.
