Hoplitas: Hoplites were citizen-soldiers of Ancient Greek city-states who were primarily armed with spears and shields. Hoplite soldiers utilized the phalanx formation in order to be effective in war with fewer soldiers.

Gold vessel from the Treasure of Sânnicolau Mare (Romania), an important hoard of early medieval gold vessels (from 6th to 10th c. CE) on display at the Kunsthistorisches Museum of Vienna.   The vase is decorated with a scene related to the complex mythology of semi-nomadic peoples of Central Asia, including Hungarians, Huns, Scythians, Khazars, Avars and Slavs. However, stylistically, Central Asian, Sassanid and Byzantine influences are predominant.
