The House of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen is the senior Swabian branch of the Hohenzollern dynasty. The senior branch ruled, and the dynasty took its name from, the Swabian County of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen (German: Grafschaft Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen), which later became a principality (Fürstentum Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen).

Carol II (15 October 1893 – 4 April 1953) reigned as King of Romania from 8 June 1930 until 6 September 1940. Eldest son of Ferdinand, King of Romania, and his wife, Queen Marie, a daughter of Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, the second eldest son of Queen Victoria. He was the first of the Romanian royal family who was baptized in the Orthodox rite.

Probably no other King of Romania is as controversial as Carol II with enemies of the Crown being most repelled by his effort at personal ru.

King Michael of Romania and bride Princess Anne of Bourbon-Parma on their wedding day, 10 June, 1948. Their marriage was controversial because Michael, an Orthodox Christian, refused to promise to raise their children as Catholics, a promise required for the Catholic Anne to get Papal permission to marry. Thus, Anne's paternal uncle, Prince Xavier of BP, forbade her parents from attending the wedding. Anne was given away by her maternal uncle, Prince Eric of Denmark.

Queen Anne of Romania, wife of King Michael. She was raised in France with her brothers. Her family escaped to Spain after the German invasion in WWII and eventually settled in the US. In 1943 Anne joined the French army and served as an ambulance driver in 5 countries, earning the French Croix de Guerre medal. Through her mother, Princess Margaret of Denmark, Anne is a distant cousin of, among others, Queen Elizabeth II, the Duke of Edinburgh, and her husband, King Michael.
