The oldest vampire legends are from Mesopotamia. Excavated evidence in the form of pottery shards which were carved to tell the tales of vampires suggest existence of a cannibalistic, blood drinking vampire demon, Lilith or Lilitu. Persian, Babylonian, Hebrew & Jewish tales indicate she was the first wife of Adam who left him to become a demon leader. She subsisted on the blood of newborns and their mothers. Sumerian vampire legends cite a reference to a similar vampire devil named Gallu.
