Canadian fine artist Bill Brownridge is in collections worldwide. On theme, he says: “My inspiration to paint comes from three sources. Perhaps most significantly, as a child I was born disabled which greatly hindered my ability to walk and run. This led to a fascination with all types of action and, as a child of the prairies, it was only natural that my eye would focus on things such as galloping horses and the grace and power of an outdoor hockey game.” Title: When the Going Gets Tough

Hockey speaks to artist Bill Brownridge in a profound manner - born disabled, he could never skate and yet on the prairies in 1940, there was only hockey. And his older brothers were star players - one broke his leg in an MSG game just prior to joining the NHL New York Rangers. Bill says: “Perhaps because I couldn't run or skate, my work is often filled with action. Spontaneity is also important in my approach to painting, I work directly, and I usually finish a piece in three or four sessions.
