Without a doubt the most highly requested tutorial I get asked for is how to do the splits. But here’s the thing... the splits aren’t that “complicated”... it’s not like an arm balance where a little adjustment in technique can find you success, it’s not like a king dancer where there are so many elements and one that you might’ve overlooked... it’s simply the need for an extreme level of flexibility in your hamstrings and hip flexors. Complicated? No 🤷🏼‍♀️ Advanced? Most definitely!! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So here are the 4 drills I do without fail if I’m going to practice my splits, and also worth watching the final slide of how I enter them - so often we see very flexible people simply slide their legs apart into a split and for most of us, that will never be the reality. Sit on the floor with your knees bent and feet lifted off the ground, balancing on your sit bones. Lean back slightly and clasp your hands together in front of you. Twist your torso to the right, bringing your clasped hands towards the ground next to your hip. Twist back to the center, then twist to the left side.
