De Havilland Mosquito, the wonder of wood. The "Mossie" was the result of Geoffery DeHavilland's conviction that a very fast, powerful aircraft could be built of wood. The result was not only fast, and "stealthy" on German radar, but could carry 4000 lbs of bombs to Berlin at 400 knots, as well as fulfilling many other roles.
Courage and Sacrifice by Mark Postlethwaite - Lancaster ED925 ‘M’ Mother, Had been hit on the way to the Möhne Dam. 2nd to attack, the defences were primed and ready & ED925 was hit repeatedly in the port wing and fuselage, catching fire just as the Upkeep was dropped. The aircraft rapidly becoming uncontrollable, Flt/Lt. Hopgood managed to gain enough height to allow 3 of his crew to bale out, before the Lancaster exploded & crashed in pieces, taking the remaining crew members to their deaths.
