Born this day, WALTER MATTHAU ~ (Oct. 1, 1920) Matthau received an Academy Award for The Fortune Cookie (1966) and Oscar nominations for Kotch (1971) and The Sunshine Boys (1975). He rose to fame in the Broadway hit The Odd Couple, which he reprised in the film co-starring Jack Lemmon. They costarred together in 10 films. Matthau became a box office favorite in The Bad News Bears, Hopscotch, Charade, House Calls, Charley Varrick, The Taking of Pelham 1,2,3, Dennis the Menace and Grumpy Old Men.
