King Michael with his mother, Princess Helen, in 1940. After his parents' divorce Michael's father, King Carol II, banished Helen from Romania and allowed Michael to visit her infrequently. Upon regaining the throne in 1940 one of the first things Michael did was to bring his mother home from exile.
