[af] Reuven Rubin (1893-1974) ~ art of flowers

Romanian-born Israeli painter from a poor family who became celebrated as a pioneer of Israeli art. He briefly studied in Jerusalem before going to Paris in 1913. He returned to his homeland during WW1, then went to the United States in 1921 and in 1923 emigrated to Mandate Palestine where he settled. He bequeathed his home and a core collection of paintings to the city of Tel Aviv where a museum was opened in his name. His paintings are reminiscent of Marc Chagall, with dream-like scenes.
