Lovely modern yukata look in Harajuku. I've seen some news about a shop who prints modern yukatas and I'd love to see more.

This stunning (and I dont use that word lightly) butterfly yukata is patterned like a houmongi with a design on the lower edge as well; rare for a yukata and definitely a mark of modern design. It is disappointing that the concept is so cool but the wings are half covered by the placement of the obi. There's not much you can do about that except what was done here: putting more butterfly wings on the obi to make up for it.

Godzilla Kimono

We met Mei and Momoko – both wearing Japanese summer kimono with modern accessories – on the street in Harajuku. Mei – a 20 year old student, on the left – is wearing a black and red yukata from the Harajuku resale shop Chicago with furry platform sandals from Spinns Harajuku. Accessories – which are handmade and from flea markets – include round sunglasses, black lace gloves, lace socks, a jeweled ring, a traditional fan, and a bright red car handbag from Retro Girl.
