Pineapple - it's great the way the pattern circles from one block to the next

New Haven Quilt Show 2011

I love pictures of my work. I love pictures of animals. I hate pictures of me! Gladys and I highjacked a gentleman at the show. He took a picture of both of us! My Pineapple quilt is behind us. I am not giving you a good view of this quilt as Bonnie Hunter has one scheduled for another of her great books. I do not want to give the pattern away! I sewed on this for months and all 4 days at the Shipshewanna Quilt Retreat last Summer. My Janome 6600P has a built in thread cutter that is almost…

Weekend work on UFO's

I am finally seeing some light at the end of this tunnel!! I have been trying to put my studio back in order and finish a myriad of UFO's. Here is my pineapple quilt, ready to be basted and quilted!! Can I hear a big yea!!!!!!! It goes all the way back from here to here. It has been a process and a journey. I think when you go outside your comfort zone, that's what happens. I decided against the blue inner border from a previous post. It seemed too heavy and contrived. I went with this…

Under the Starry Sky

Last Saturday Susan and I went to NYC to the Empire Quilt Show. Here is what I bought: Here is what I won (lucky me)! Here is what I saw (my favorite at the show): Congratulations Betsy, great modern twist on a traditional pattern! Before going back to CT, we had a cocktail under the Starry Sky at Grand Central Station. I've had a couple of inquiries about how I'm making my 4 inch Stars for the Stars in a Time Warp sew along. Judy sent me a smilebox video of how she makes her flying geese…

English Festival of Quilts

the most joyous of quilts. I saw so may quilts, the good, the bad and the ugly, at the recent Festival of Quilts in Birmingham, that I have been at a loss to know what to write and how to show all …

First quilt

As promised in my last post this time I will write something about quilts, at last. Jantine asked me about the quilt in the background of my blog. The reason I chose this quilt as a background is because it is a pineapple quilt. And as the pineapple block symbolizes welcome and good will I thought it was only fitting to have this quilt as the background of my blog (at least for now). Also, it was my first finished full scale quilt. I finished it in 1991, a long time ago. I would use more…

Quilt du Jour

Anna Williams' quilts are a source of inspiration for me. I love all the tiny pieces and the casual but powerful overall designs. Years ago my sister Eileen and I sat in front of one of Anna's quilts for half an hour (at the Museum of the American Quilter's Society in Paducah) and really studied it. Then we challenged each other to make a quilt that would just like one that Anna would make. It wasn't easy. When we were finished, we mailed photos of our quilts to her. She wrote back saying…
