The Tărtăria tablets are three tablets, discovered in 1961 at a Neolithic site in the village of Tartaria in Romania. The tablets, dated to around 5300 BC, bear incised symbols - the Vinca symbols - and have been the subject of controversy among archaeologists, some of whom claim that the symbols represent the earliest known form of writing in the world. Similar motifs have been found on pots excavated at Gradeshnitsa in Bulgaria, Vinča in Serbia and other locations in the southern Balkans.

It was so powerful that it would smash through the Roman shields and slash the Roman soldier's arm. The Romans added overlapping plate armor to the right (shield) arm to protect against this.-DK
