Ten Equations that changed the world. (You once told me that some day you wanted me to tell you all about science and engineering. How long have you got? It's all so fascinating and we take it too much for granted.)

Photo of the “Llullaillaco Maiden," a 15-year-old girl sacrificed during the Inca Empire for both purposes of religious rite and social control. She was chosen a year prior to her death, fed a ritualistic diet for an approximate twelve months to make her gain weight, then was drugged and left on the shrine at Volcano Llullaillaco, where she was left to die of exposure. For five hundred years, her body had been preserved at 82 ft. She is considered to be the best preserved Andean mummy. repin

The Earliest Known Dictionary circa 2,300 BC. The oldest known dictionaries are cuneiform tablets from the Akkadian empire with biliingual wordlists in Sumerian and Akkadian discovered in Ebla in modern Syria. Located in one of the flattest places on the face of this planet are the strange and unexplained Sailing Stones of Racetrack Playa, Death Valley, California. Once a year the "Playa" or flat desert pan experiences short winter rains and becomes slippery as the hexagonal desert floor turns back to mud. During this time the boulders and rocks move leaving clearly visible tracks behind them.

There is a nearly shocking moment, as you look at this photo, when it hits you that it's not modern (by any stretch of the imagination), it is of (photographer) Albert Sands Southworth and was taken in 1848. A time when the last thing most people (today) would imagine a prim and proper Victorian gentleman doing would be to pose for a topless self-portrait. Simply wonderful!

The Forbidden Book of Enoch. Enoch was the grandfather of Noah. It is not currently regarded as part of the Canon of Scripture as used by Jews, apart from the Beta Israel canon; nor by any Christian group, apart from the Ethiopian Orthodox Church canon. However, it is argued that all the writers of the New Testament were familiar with it and were influenced by it in thought and diction.
